Hasn't everyone always dreamed of being a soap star? Well Top Billing's Jeannie D certainly has...
Although we think her true calling is to present Top Billing, Jeannie finally got to live out her other fantasy by appearing on SABC 2's soapie 7de Laan - and playing herself no less!
We follow Jeannie behind-the-scenes as she goes through the process that results in each day's episode of this weekday daily soap. From morning rehearsals and dialogue coaching to hair and make up - it's all in a days work at the busy Lonehill studios. Along the way she chats to stars such as fabulous Diaan Lawrenson ('Paula'), Caroline Jacobs ('Zinzi') and Jo Da Silva, who delights in playing the show's 'super-bitch' Gita. The scene in which Jeannie appears is a big cocktail launch function hosted by Gita, that is pivotal to the storyline and creates some awkward moments for many of the characters. As Jeannie is playing herself - the fabulous Top Billing presenter - she even has an actor who play her cameraman - as her real crew was of course shooting her from behind 7de Laan's cameras.
Jeannie gets more than she bargained for during a tour of the wardrobe department as sexy heartthrob Heino Schmitt drops his pants! But nothing can distract her from the task at hand, delivering her lines with as much conviction (and as little fault) as possible. Although her's was a guest role, Jeannie too to being a sop star like a duck to water and now feels so much part of the 7de Laan cast that she likes to call Melville her second home.
