Top Billing features the spectacular Dunkeld Lodge
Having renovated several homes over the years, Murray Iversen was an advocate for clean lines and modern finishes. However, one day he had a design revelation and this house in Dunkeld, Johannesburg, was it.
Just a twenty minute drive from the middle of Sandton, Murray has created a lodge style escape that could be five hours away in the bush. It took him two years to complete the renovation. No architect, no interior designer – he did it all himself.
Living in the midst of the worksite for 18 months, he used the bathroom as his kitchen but is now getting to enjoy the rewards. Murray hails from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe and really brought the bushveld to the city – inside and out. A dam with bream and barbell on site reminds him of Lake Kariba. The garden is indigenous and the pillars are built of rock dug out of the property grounds.
The Indonesian and Indian décor in the house reflects Murray’s eye for aesthetic. As a photographer, his favourite subject is the continent he calls home and has exhibited in numerous galleries. For guests who come for dinner, staying overnight is an easy decision with more then enough room for everyone at the lodge.
