World acclaimed visual artist Sam Nhlengethwa says two things give him the greatest pleasure of all – Jazz and Art – and he makes sure that he surrounds himself with both, whether at home or at work. Simba caught up with him at his studio in Newtown, Johannesburg. Just when Simba thought he’d had his fill of mesmerising art, Sam took him to his city centre apartment and his Benoni family home where some of the country’s top artists, such as the late Dumile Feni, Malene Dumas and William Kentridge, are on display. Sam Nhlengethwa’s love for beauty is self evident but his support for fellow artists, both visual and otherwise, is no doubt an inspiration.
