We talk to Protea cricketer AB de Villiers about his newly released autobiography.
Praise of South African cricketers by Australians is hard to come by so when Ozzie legend Adam Gilchrist says ‘AB De Villiers is the most valuable cricketer on the planet’ – you know there’s something special about our captain.
AB is the title of his autobiography and it’s the tale of a 360-degree batsman who can hit any ball, anywhere, against any bowler. Danielle De Villiers on the other hand is more excited about his literary career! At home with AB, Jon got some tips on how a man hits eight thousand test runs.
Growing up in Warmbaths, AB excelled at tennis and rugby but chose cricket. A dynamic keeper, fielder and batsman, after just sixteen first class games he got his first national call up at the age of twenty. From his Test debut, AB was selected in every single Test played by South Africa for the next eleven seasons. His book relives them all.
Together with singer and songwriter Ampie Du Preez, he recorded a bi-lingual English/ Afrikaans album of power ballads titled ‘Make Your Dreams Come True’. All the while lying down several batting records like the fastest fifty, hundred and hundred and fifty in One Day Internationals. The man is still just 32. What records, albums and victories still lie in store, we cannot wait to see.
