The new blockbuster Black Panther is set in the fictional, African state of Wakanda. The costumes, by designer Ruth Carter, inspired a "Welcome to Wakanda” capsule collection and we attended the launch atNew York Fashion Week.
For the film the studio adopted isiXhosa as Wakanda’s official language and the cast, including Oscar winner Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira and Connie Chiume, wore costumes drawn directly from African cultures.
