A dazzling display of fireworks kicked off the 6th annual Cape Town Carnival to thundering applause and cheers. If Cape Town was not already the event's capital of South Africa, this joyous occasion will surely secure it's spot at the top.
The event was filled with all sorts of diverse activities, floats and personalities that beautifully captured the essence of Cape Town.
This year’s theme was “Elemental” celebrating Fire, Water, Air and Earth. This was superbly translated through dramatized acts of choreographed dance routines, floats and performers on stilts - it was indeed an event that was organized to perfection. One of the highlights included the crowd's excitement when some of the brave firefighters who assisted in battling the runaway fires all over the Western Cape were given a hero's welcome to the carnival.
Juts when we thought it couldn't get any better, we were taken to the Cape Town Stadium (a party bus was the perfect mode of transportation for the occasion) where we were entertained by the likes of Youngstar, Casper Nyovest, Beatenberg and our very own local hip hop group ILL SKILLS. The latter were, to my opinion the best performers and undoubtedly owned the stage with utmost vigour.
REDDS in partnership with the Cape Town Carnival couldn’t have done a better job with this wonderful line up! Micah Naidoo, General Manager of the Flavored Alcohol Beverages, promises to deliver more of these fantastic experiences.
This was definitely a world class event Cape Town can be proud of!
