Granted in 1685 to Willem Adriaan van der Stel, Vergelegen Estate has had a few visionary owners who have shaped this historic property into the world-class estate that it is today.
Given the momentous task updating and modernizing the guesthouse, which has hosted many famous names including Nelson Mandela, Bill and Hillary Clinton and Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, was South African designer John Jacob. As it is a period home steeped in history it was important to him that the home maintained its historic appeal but included a fresh contemporary twist.
