DIY: Make a shabby chic Chritmas tree
SHOPPING LIST 44x44 PAR SA Pine, cut to the following lengths: 1600mm, 960mm, 780mm, 600mm, 480mm, 360mm, 240mm Drill and bit for pilot holes Self-tapping screws Topcoat Whitewash paint Mutton cloth Paint tray
The 1 600mm length is the ‘trunk’ of the tree. The remaining lengths are for the 'branches'. Drill two pilot holes in the centre of each branch. Place the branches in the correct positions (150mm apart) on the trunk to continue the pilot hole. Attach branches onto the trunk with the drill and screws. Use the mutton cloth to rub the whitewash onto the wood. Give it a good coating of three layers for a substantial white effect with the wooden grain still visible. An alternative to whitewash is watered-down white paint.
For a striking Christmas tree, complementing the simple structure, stick to one colour when decorating the tree. We used a silver pot with white stones to anchor the base. Silver ribbon and hanging silver balls adorn the branches and a silver star tops it all off.

Another use Give your tree a second life after Christmas by screwing in hooks along the branches and nailing the tree to the wall. Ladies can use this as a wall-mounted accessory stand, while men can use it for ties.
