By now it's probably dawned on you: no, the fashion reports weren't joking when they said capes would be huge this winter! Appearing in various lengths, fabrication and colours - the cape is the new cardigan...but with such a spectrum to choose from, the question is: which style best suits an occasion?
Knitted cardi-capes: looks like a cardigan but in a flared cape shape, with either open arm holes or wide sleeves. Where to wear it: this is a more casual style suitable to a relaxed office environment, shopping, movies or any low-key weekend activity.
Cape-coats: appears like a trench coat, often with a double row of buttons and a belted waist, they may have either open arm holes or wide sleeves. Where to wear it: this style, like a trench coat, is an 'over-coat' - to be worn over an outfit. Great for making an entrance into work, or providing an extra layer on those outdoor-days-out.
Cropped-capes: similar to cropped jackets; their length is short, above the waist, with only one or two buttons. They may be flared over the arm, or have wide sleeve-like openings. Where to wear it: this short style is ideal to wear over a dress in the evening, though they can be worn over a blouse for the office too.
