Dress Code |
This fashion tip is for all the guys out there that get clammy hands when they read 'Dress Code' instructions on an invitation...
Casual = You're free to go as you please; shorts, jeans, t-shirts, flip flops...what ever makes you feel relaxed and comfortable. But don't over-dress - 'casual' never means a suit; and never wear an item of clothing with a stain on it - that's just gross.
Smart-casual = Ah, the paradoxical dress code most men dread...the rules here are unspoken but held in high regard. A button-up collared shirt is compulsory, a jacket is optional, and any kind of sports trainer is definitely not welcome. Traditionally trousers apply to smart-casual; these days you can wear jeans, but they should be a dark wash and without any 'sand-blasting', rips or 'distressing' effects on the denim; essentially if they are clean and fitted like a trouser, just made out of denim, they'll pass. However 'old school' establishments, like a golf club or university, may still play by the old rules; which include no jeans what so ever, so a good idea would be to call ahead and ask the concierge what's expected.
Smart = This means a suit, a button-up collared shirt, and maybe even a tie. Smart shoes are essential, so get the polishing kit out if the leather needs some attention.
Black tie = All of the above - plus a bow tie or a tie, as a more casual option. This is the smartest of all dress codes; so make sure your suit is dry-cleaned, and your shirt is well ironed with a crisp collar. Shoes should look immaculate, so polish them till they shine!
