Shoe trends this summer will leave shoe-addicts singing with delight! The brighter and bolder, the better; the new trend is to make a statement loud and clear. Footwear styles to make a come back are the 'Gladiator' sandal - in both high heels and flats, 'Wedges' - your must-have shoe to complete the 70s look, and the high 'platform' heel - with a new introduction; the 'Flatform' - a flat shoe elevated on a platform.
Designers pulled out all the stops this season, creating imaginative "artistic" footwear which is more of an exclamation than an accessory - However, these look fantastic on the runway, but how do you pull it off on the street? The old rules of matching your shoes perfectly to your outfit no longer apply; however they should still compliment your over all look, so watch your colour combinations, and the silhouette of your trouser/skirt compared the the size of your shoe. There are no set rules; but generally if your clothes are 'slim cut', tapered trousers or form-fitting skirts, then the heel should be slender too - 'chunky' shoes like wedges, are usually better with flared skirts, dresses or wide leg trousers.
Never wear a shoe that looks like it's wearing you; you need to 'own' your wardrobe, and feel confident, and comfortable, in what ever you're wearing.
