Fashion Tip: extra-wide-legged trousers

Wide pants

Divide & Conquer

For the past year fashion has seen the return of the trouser in all shapes and forms. This spring, keeping in line with the re-emergence of all that is 70s; extra-wide-legged trousers, or "palazzo" pants, have their moment in the sun. Perfect for those hot days when clingy skinny trousers are the enemy, wide legged trousers in light weight fabrics are cool in every meaning of the word. Wear with a tucked in blouse for quintessential 70s sophistication, or with a simple tank top for contemporary chic. The key is to keep the top tucked in, or even cropped in length, therefore emphasising your waist. Wearing along with a billowing oversized kaftan for example, will shroud you in too much fabric, which is unflattering.  Wide leg trouser styles always require you to 'stream-line' your top half, just to keep the proportions in check. A word of warning on the shoes: as with maxi-dresses, best to keep your footwear flat, a wedge, or with a chunky heel - slender stiletto heels can get caught in the volume of fabric at the hem, causing a tripping hazard (...not a good look when you're strutting your stuff).
