Former Mrs SA Hlengiwe Twala invites us to her home
Former Mrs SA Hlengiwe Twala invites us to her home Mrs S.A. 2017 Hlengiwe Twala on losing her mother, winning a crown and living every moment like its your last.
Winning Mrs S.A. was truly a game changer for Hlengiwe Twala, who shared with Top Billing how her role and reign as Mrs S.A 2017 assisted her when dealing with her traumatising cancer scare and the loss of her late mother .
By day, Mrs. Twala is co-owner of a beauty business, model, fashion blogger and most importantly a mother to 3 beautiful children. Coming from a large family herself, Hlengiwe was born into a family of eight children and despite her humble beginnings that included her having to drop out of university due to financial difficulties, she still managed to make it.
Among one of her many accomplishments, Hlengiwe is a qualified life coach and her training is tested daily by her girls that she’s raising with husband, businessman Glen Twala at their Hartebeesoort home. When partaking in Mrs South Africa, it was the first time the happily married mother of three had entered a beauty pageant and her motivation was astonishingly profound. After being crowned, Hlengiwe admits being bestowed with such a huge responsibility helped her heal from personal struggles. “I have found so much healing and forgiveness throughout this journey. When I entered I was so undone and sad, but sharing my story has really helped me find healing and take my power back,” says the beauty queen.
She currently works very closely with the CANSA organisation as she had a cervical cancer scare but luckily after her biopsy and scraping she was cleared by doctors who confirmed that it wasn’t cancer. Her mother, unfortunately didn’t have the same luck, as she passed on 3 years prior Hlengiwe being crowned Mrs S.A. from a rare blood cancer.
Hlengiwe’s journey made her realise the importance of living in the moment because there are no guarantees for tomorrow and we couldn’t agree with her more. Life will forever have its hurdles and hardships hence why it’s so important to always look out for silver linings. Sometimes things have to get worse before they can get better, just hang in there.
