Jo-Ann practices her French Knot with the Taunina Bears
If you thought teddy bears were just a toy, you haven't seen a Taunina Bear, a bespoke work of art that's also creating opportunities for women in impoverished areas.
Last year Taunina bears hit the spotlight when they came down the catwalk at a Marianne Fassler show during Johannesburg Fashion Week. Operating from its studio in Cape Town, previously disadvantaged artists gather around a table each day to lovingly create individually designed hand-crafted teddies.
A unique creation, each bear is an heirloom art piece that can be passed down through the generations to tell the story of your family as well as the artists.
Find out the story of these beautiful bears on Top Billing this Thursday at 7:30pm on SABC3.
