See what Jonathan had to say about his trip to London to interview the cast: " I have always been such a huge fan of Lord of the Rings. They weren't just movies for me, but cinematic adventures I'd look forward too with great anticipation every year. To actually have a chat with the cast and director was a dream come true. What an incredible and overwhelming feeling sitting opposite these characters who have become cultural icons, Gandalf, Gollum, Bilbo Baggins! Words cannot describe how blessed I am.
The trip was crazy. I arrived early in the morning. The weather was freezing but London is so magical at this time of year, Christmas lights everywhere. That evening the press had a private screening at the Warner Bros headquarters, which was another highlight for me. A private screening of The Hobbit, it doesn't get any better. What made it even more special was the knowledge I'd be interviewing all the actors the next day. I didn't sleep a wink. Thank goodness for Starbucks. One "flat white" to go please.
The junket was held at Claridge's, one of the most beautiful hotels in the world. Proper old school London charm. I had 5 minutes with Peter Jackson, Sir Ian Mckellan, Andy Serkis, Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage and James Nesbitt and Aidan Turber(paired). When it was all over and I walked out into the cold London night, the streets were filled with lights like those in the pics. It all felt like a dream. It still feels like a dream. I mean, I got to ask Gandalf what shoes he wears! That alone is a story for the grand kids one day.
What struck me was how friendly and down to earth everyone was. Peter Jackson looks like a Hobbit. He's a movie making genius, there's no one else who could have bought these movies so magically to the screen. Martin Freeman is the closest person to a Hobbit I've ever met, what a gentle soul. Talk about the perfect casting choice. Ian Mckellan is a legend. I think he was the highlight for me. He's acting royalty and has the most incredible presence I've ever come across in my life. Andy Serkis is Gollum, it's almost like you in the room with him. What a nice guy, he's awesome and single handedly responsible for one of the most memorable movie characters of all time. "
