Kim Hutton invites us to his latest masterpiece
This Northern suburbs villa was built with all the classic elements you’d expect of an Italian design but the new owners wanted to dial down how ornate it was.
Kim Hutton was tasked with turning it into a modern, liveable family home, while retaining its classical charm. With five months to plan and carry out the renovation, Kim H. had a testing project on his hands. The kind he likes.

The owners initially approached Kim to work his magic with a view to them selling the house. But as this transformation took shape, they and their four children were so take in by the results that they decided not to sell and instead – they moved in.

Kim wanted to surprise the owners with an unexpected earlier handover. With two of the couple’s children out of town, he arranged for them to get to Joburg a week earlier than the expected delivery date, requested a last meeting with their parents and sprung his surprise.

One of the family has just finished varsity, another is at UCT and the last two in school. With many big birthdays, graduations and maybe an engagement party or two to be celebrated here, the story of this house has only begun.
