What better way to start experiencing dynamic Hong Kong than by taking in the view of this sky-rise city from the viewing deck at The Peak. Although Lorna loves the view, she my have other thoughts about the humidity and what this might do to her hair, so she dashes to the cool air-conditioned 'safety' of her hotel; the luxury Island Shangri-La. Here she gets given a tour of the hotel's highlights, including the worlds largest silk painting - a commission which is proudly on display. From here she also takes in the busy side streets on the mountain slops of the city via a unique mode of transport - the mid-level escalators. Keen to participate in the exercise regiment of the locals, Lorna joins in a Tai Chi class under way. A 'must see' tourist attractions of Hong Kong is the Giant Buddha on Lantau Island. Lorna loves the Ngong Ping 360 cable car ride up the mountain, even if the crystal' glass bottomed car of the leaves her feeling a little queasy. To get to the Buddha still requires a hike up a steel flight of stairs, but seeing the Buddha up close is worth the effort. That evening Lorna visits the Happy Valley Race Track and discovers that many of the champion jockey's are South African!
