International sporting super stars Martina Hingis and Edwin Moses lend a hand to MATCH foundation


On our guest list this week is an incredible line-up of Wimbledon and Olympic legends. The big idea which brought them here is that the next Grand Slam champion will come from Africa.

The sporting heroes at the MATCH Foundation fundraiser were here both to thrill promising, young tennis players and to remind those bidding of what may become of these budding talents may become. Hosting the evening were Rolf Theiler and wife, Gloria Arendz.

The aim of Anthula Martkovitz’ MATCH foundation is simple - to producing rounded and well-grounded future champions.

With former world number one Martina Hingis as a guest, Errol Arendz was asked to design her one of his famed creations.

Martina became the youngest ever Grand Slam champion and world No. 1. But only after defecting from Soviet controlled Czechoslovakia with her mother, Melanie Molitor. Her path was tough.

Another legend who got on board is no less than America’s two time Olympic hurdles champion Edwin Moses.

There to support a fellow sporting code was Springbok great Jean de Villiers.

Among the sought after items on auction was a work by Gloria’s son-in-law, the Italian 
American artist Massimo Agostinelli.

The stars gave priceless U.S. Open and Olympic mementos for auction as well as their time, the guests bid generously and we look forward to the results.
