Music super group Supreme 3 talks to Top Billing about the magic of Motown
When it comes to the music of motown, two’s company but three is perfect harmony. Loyiso Bala, Danny K. and Lloyd Cele recently pooled their awesome talents into a collective they’ve called Supreme 3 - transporting us back to the glory days of soul.
The three artists bonded over their love of motown, and soon settled on the name Supreme 3 as an homage to The Supremes, some of the originals of the genre. Their new song ‘Throwback to Love’ is an energetic and smooth track that is bound to have music fans on their feet all over the country.
Harmony caught up with the guys over a delicious day of cooking with Chef Coco Reinharz, who serves a soul food fusion at his restaurant in Sandton. His influences range from a childhood spent at his mother’s side in her Kinshasa restaurant to his own formal training in Belgium.
For the gents he prepared a menu of calamari starters, beef rolex, and chocolate fondant with African spicing for dessert.
The central ingredients you can expect from Supreme 3 are soul, funk, RnB and motown style - with an African flavour.
Danny K grew up listening to Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Lloyd took on the lead role in the stage musical ‘The Life and Music of Marvin Gaye’ last year, and Loyiso sees himself as the musical bridge between his band-mates, so the combo is perfection!
To top it all off, all three are dedicated family men who know where their true priorities lie, and love spending time with their supportive families.
We can’t wait to hear more of their amazing collaboration!
