Princess Project: Making Dreams Come True
Every schoolgirl dreams of the perfect matric dance and of course, the perfect matric dance dress! So, what better reward for a year of study and good grades than to be gifted with a stunning celebrity dress to wear on the special night! That is exactly what The Princess Project, started by Top Billing presenter, Jo-Ann Strauss, does for matric girls.
Our presenter and her celebrity friends have realised that after wearing a red-carpet dress at one or two high profile events means they can't wear it any more.
To give these barely worn dresses more opportunity to dazzle again the Princess Project collects and distributes them to deserving school-girls who otherwise would not be able to afford such luxuries - and make their matric dance dreams come true.
On a recent cover shoot for YOU Makeovers magazine, Jo-Ann decided she should share the experience and invited two role-model schoolgirls along. They too had makeovers and professional photo shoots done, wearing their special dresses. They were then invited to showcase their new looks and dresses on breakfast show Expresso, a process which was covered for Top Billing too! So ... from studying for their final exams to a glamorous make-over and magazine photo shoot AND appearances on Top Billing and Expresso - it was an experience the girls would not trade for a second!
More about the Princess Project The Princess Project by Jo-Ann Strauss, was established in 2008 to give young deserving young ladies the chance to go to their “Matric Balls” or “Proms” in designer dresses previously owned by South Africa’s top celebrities.
The idea behind her initiative was born of the fact that she herself went to her Matric Dance in a “previously-loved” designer dress which she bought with her mom at a second-hand store.
Jo-Ann is one of South Africa’s most respected media personalities and uses her profile and influence to help various initiatives. Her Princess Project has been supported by many South African and recently, international stars and has given dresses to over 80 young ladies with the help of SA’s top magazines YOU, Huisgenoot and Drum as well as Top Billing. She will be reaching even more deserving young ladies in SA.
