We celebrate love with the wedding of Waylon Murray and Nicci Goodwin.
The Sharks mid-fielder Waylon Murray is the strong, silent type who does his talking on the field. That meant a relationship that developed slow and steady with Nicci Goodwin, first as a friendship that blossomed into love and recently, led down the aisle.
Waylon and his bride have known each other for five years, lived in four different cities, made a distance relationship work and proven a real match. A professional hair stylist who’s worked internationally, Nicci’s prepared many brides for their big day and now it was hers.
Whilst the ceremony was outdoors, the couple chose a reception in timeless white by co-ordinator Kgomotso Ndungane. Malva pudding, brownies and pecan nut pie made up the heart of a dream dessert table. An ice cream cookie sandwich truck is the Bride and Groom’s favourite Sunday treat so they decided to share it with their guests.
As well as family, the guest list included friends from Nicci’s styling work abroad and team mates from the various rugby franchises Waylon has played for. Waylon is shy when you meet him but Nicci insists he is a major joker at home and that was clear once he relaxed after the ceremony.
Today Nicci co-ordinates high-school awareness programmes, Waylon is starting a coaching initiative for kids in rural areas and they plan to have children too. The couple’s travels have given them a taste for life abroad but for now, life together, in Durban can’t be beat.
