Summer Wedding Trends With the chime of wedding bells and the sounds of summer in the distance, Jo-Ann gets to the bottom of the latest summer wedding trends.
From exploring the trends of ‘Global Tribe’, 'Urban Chic' and 'Opulent Elegance' - she meets and gets great tips from the experts along the way - we guess you can call her ‘Alice in Wedding-land’.
More about the three trends: Opulent Elegance Key words: Volume, abundance, profusion, elaborate, classical, sophisticated Colour Palette: Neutral colours and nude tones: Creams, whites, and taupe with highlights of gold, peach and soft pink. Flowers: Voluptuous and dramatic – often perched high above the table or suspended from above. Candles and crystals are used to round off the look. Linen: Simple but sheer. Embossed patterns are big news. Lacework to add a touch of femininity. Glassware: Cut crystal with accents of amber for a royal banquet effect. Cutlery: Silver plated and delicate Chairs: Gold and glamorous
Global Tribe Key words: Beliefs, cultures, unique characteristics. Look is experimental and organic as opposed to vintage. Modern tapestry; handcrafted effects treated in a contemporary fashion. Colour Palette: Rich jewel tones (Magenta, Jade, Yellow, Purple, Royal blue, Emerald) offset by lush greens. Tactile materials such as wood, stone, shell and moss. Kelims & floral rugs round off the look. Flowers: A variety of colourful blooms are used to add an element of surprise. Eclectic raw materials, ornamental fruit & veg (onion flowers, artichokes, cabbage flowers) in conjunction with varied containers (jugs, gravy boats, milk jugs, silver urns, ceramics, glass and wood vessels) Candle ware to be a mix of single candlestick holders & lanterns. Linen: A bare wooden table features a runner with geometric/ethnic patterns or painterly florals. Glassware: Mismatched glasses featuring silver goblets, and coloured tumblers. Cutlery: Heavy weight ranges combined with wood. Chairs: Natural and comfortable seating including blankets, daybeds and scatter cushions
Urban Chic Key words: Sleek, simplistic yet striking, minimalistic, contemporary, popular and edgy. Colour Palette: Colour is used sparingly against a blank canvas of monochromes – if not all white. Highlight colours are yellow or vibrant green. Transparency achieved by using glass and Perspex in abundance. Flowers: Species are limited to 2 or 3 varieties and these are repeatedly used to create a uniform look. Flowers are chosen for their striking shape or length and containers (cylindrical or square shapes) feature water and light as equally important ingredients. Candles are placed in glass containers or used simply on their own in the shape of bold pillars. Linen: Crisp white linen or table tops upholstered in pale fabrics. High gloss furniture pieces may be used without any linen at all. Glassware: Sleek, modern crystal. Femina champagne flutes are an absolute must! Cutlery: Polished stainless steel. Many food options are served canapé style; these may be enjoyed without cutlery or with exotic tools such as chop sticks. Chairs: Club style Perspex Ghost chairs.
