Top Billing meets the man behind a small boutique hotel with ‘industrial mystique’. We discover how Geoff Engel remodeled the Turbine Hotel around the industrial architecture of a disused, wood fired, steam turbine power station. We marvel at how he created this fascinating space where all the old machinery, with its retro dials, pressure gauges and switches have been refurbished and preserved. The location, right in the middle of the Thesen Island, Harbour Village, is picture perfect and the hotel no doubt contributes to Knysna’s reputation as being South Africa’s favourite town.
