The winner of the Win A Room Makeover competition is revealed!
This week the Top Billing join us as we meet the lucky winner of our first Room Makeover!
We were overwhelmed by the incredible response to our first 'Win A Room Makeover' competition and had an incredibly tough decision of who should be our first winner. The inspiring family that was chosen has experienced incredibly tough times but has always remained positive. Join Top Billing on Thursday 10 July 2014 to see how the team transformed their living space and brightened the lives of this very special family.
Our team met the winner Tiisetso Maphosa and her younger brother, Tshegofatso, at her home in Temba, north of Pretoria, and were immediately touched by her story and their strength. After being invited into their home, we decided that doing a bedroom makeover was just not enough and with the help of our incredible sponsors we were able give a new lease on life to the entire home!
Out of the hundreds of entries Top Billing received, Tiisetso's heartfelt motivation was what stood out for us. Her father, Petrus, passed away in 2003 and her mother, Mmapula, shortly after him in 2005 leaving Tiisetso then only 15 and Tshegofatso aged 11 as orphans. Their amazing grandmother, Rebecca Sentsho, stepped in and has been caring for and providing for them ever since. With her pension of just over R1000 per month Tiisetso and Tshegofatso were both able to complete their schooling and study further, however their budget never quite extended to decorating their RDP home which they inherited from their parents.
Tiisetso's dream is to become a Travel Agent and she has achieved a Diploma in Tourism Management from Tshwane University of Technology and has also completed a Human Resources Management N6 qualification at Tshwane North College. Her brother is following in her footsteps and is working towards his qualification in Human Resources Management N5 at Tshwane North College.
When she is not studying Tiisetso gives back to her community by volunteering at Refitlhile Primary School as a Homework Supervisor.
Like many other hopeful contestants Tiisetso felt that her chances of winning were very small and couldn't believe it when she was told that she had been chosen as the winner. Her beloved Grandmother was the first person she shared her news with and she still can't believe her luck!
"Winning this competition has influenced me to be more positive in life and it has encouraged me to make something of myself because I realised that dreams do come true."
Our incredible Win a Room Makeover sponsors Plascon, Samsung and Telkom went the extra mile and now Tiisetso and her family can enjoy their freshly painted house, a new Samsung 40 inch Smart TV and a year's worth of broadband internet from Telkom, which will make furthering their studies that much easier. Fielli also stepped in and provided Tiisetso and Tshegofatso's grandmother with a Simmons double bed which is the first new bed she has ever owned in 76 years! Tiisetso is overjoyed with the results of her room makeover and has even decided to name her new pot plants after members of our makeover team, Lisa, Deon and Simone!
Meet this incredible family that touched our hearts and see their amazing home transformation on Top Billing this Thursday, 10 July 2014 at 20:30 on SABC3.
