Top Billing attends the wedding of Advocate Justice Bekebeke
We cracked an invite to the beautiful wedding of Advocate Justice Bekebeke and Babalwa Jacobs.
Babalwa values her independence so much that she never saw herself getting married and the only way to change her mind would be via her heart. Clearly, Justice understood this because he and Babalwa were recently wed and we went to find out how he did it!
Justice grew up along the Orange River. He is known as the advocate whose activism in the 80’s nearly cost him his life, but who survived to see the dawn of a new democracy. Now he is the director general of the Northern Cape and, he is in love!
The romance began slow. Justice dropped hints about marriage until Babalwa realized she could marry whilst retaining her independent spirit and when he proposed, she said yes. The venue echoed the groom’s gold cravat and bride’s ivory mermaid dress with a decor theme of royal gold and ivory by Benita Steenkamp.
Both families are from nearby Paballelo. A favourite story is how Justice was so nervous the night he met her family that when asked about his parents, he momentarily forgot his mother’s name. Which only endeared him to Babalwa’s sister Yoliswa Jacobs. When they first met, Justice only got nine digits of her phone number. The next time, she was unsure, her friends encouraged her, he persisted and five years on, here they are.
With two of their leading lights now husband and wife, the community are even closer and may the couple’s love remain as constant as the river on which they wed.
