When conditions are right, you can create a fine wine, or an exceptional human being. This week on Top Billing we meet a woman who is a bit of both - South Africa’s first black Woman Winemaker of The Year, Ntsiki Biyela.
The journey began with a Zululand schoolgirl whose talent for science did not go unnoticed. Recruited from high school, and then given a scholarship to study winemaking, Ntsiki made sure she grabbed the opportunity that came her way.
When the Landbouweekblad crowned this young Stellenbosch graduate with winemaking’s top award, the whole nation won. Now the head winemaker at Stellekaya, Ntsiki proves that passionate women should not be underestimated – even in a male dominated industry.
