Top Billing drives the exhilarating All-New Jaguar FPACE with Sharlto
Top Billing drives the exhilarating All-New Jaguar F-PACE with Sharlto Copley The sound of four, six, eight cylinders and more echoed across the hills, while ten thousand spectators lined the course. The reason that this celebration of speed scooped the award for Knysna’s "Best Tourism" event was clear.
Last year, the gathering, reputed to be the country’s top gentleman’s racing event, was won by a woman, Donny Lamola. Cheering Donny on was a man who’s own performance will surely earn him a Springbok start – Cheslin Kolbe. The Climb is contested by production cars through to race cars. Jaguar Experience’s lead driving instructor Sean Renton gave us the lowdown.
Having crossed the T’s and dotted the I’s, Jon’s instructor Andrew Blane gave him free reign. Jon felt like Chuck Yeager after breaking the sound barrier. Another beaming tv presenter taking a tilt at the Jaguar F-Type was Maps Maponyane who happily took the passenger seat.
The highlight of the weekend was the All-New Jaguar F-PACE making its debut, swinging low beneath a great Sea King helicopter. This performance SUV has the DNA of a sports car, but even more practicality and interior space. As Jag’s first SUV, over 90 percent of its buyers will migrate from other brands. A bold move, and this car is equal to it. What Jon and Sharlto agreed on was that with its performance and seduction, this is the ultimate, practical sportscar. As was the entire day where supercars and vintage bikes – all were welcome to take on the hill. But stealing hearts, minds and the allegiance of other SUV owners was the F-PACE. As well as the Supercharged Petrol engine, there’s the 2 litre 4 cylinder Turbocharged Diesel engine with top economy and exceedingly low emissions. What’s not to love!
