Top Billing explores Mosaic Private Sanctuary
As part of Top Billing’s 25th birthday celebrations, we are giving away a season of dream prizes, including a five star getaway to Mosaic Private Sanctuary, Lagoon Lodge in Hermanus.
Sometimes, the pictures tell you everything you need to know. The Walker Bay Beach and Nature Reserve offers scenes that landscape paintings are made of and this destination encompasses the best of them. Mosaic Private Sanctuary is a historical journey, a gastronomic delight and a luxurious escape into the heart of The Cape Floral Kingdom.
A visit here is like being let in on a fantastic secret and General Manager, Marcelino Henckert has seen it all unfold. It is a vast landscape and a quadbike ride with guide Vitalis Chingo is an informative, fun way to get out among the thousands of plant species that make this part of the most biodiverse eco-system on Earth.
They say the air around Walker Bay has a champagne quality to it and a walk up the koppies with Vitalis is the way to make the most of it. While back at the lodge, Head Chef Bridget Bartleman lays on lunch at the best picnic setting you ever saw.
Going walkabout on water and being alone with your thoughts in this epic water and mountain-scape, is the kind of natural therapy you can’t put a price on. It’s a decent workout too – and you need it with all the spoiling here.
Vitalis had an early sundowners planned for us with a 4x4 trip into the dunes. The reveal of Walker Bay with nobody else around feels like you’re the first to discover it – which calls for a toast with a famous, botanical spirit - distilled nearby.
The lodge keeps guests inspired with the sheer variety of ways to enjoy the lagoon and Olifantsberg kleinrivier Mountains. Aboard ‘The Spirit of Agnes’ you find yourself in perfect birding country – home to our national bird, the blue crane and to coots, ducks and cormorants.
This is one of those spaces where you realise that your camera won’t do it justice so you put away your technology; take a mental snapshot and just surrender to the beauty. Mosaic Private Sanctuary is exactly what its name suggests.
