With all the talent show winners each year, not all of them are able to kick on to lasting careers. Someone who has managed that is Canadian Carly Rae Jepsen, and after selling a cool 20 million records, she’s adding to that number with her latest album E.MO.TION.
Having written her first song at the age of 9, the new album E.MO.TION is inspired by the 80's hits of Prince, Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, and Carly was recently in S.A. to promote it.
The new release focuses less on singles and more on being a full, acclaimed album. It’s a bold move in pop music and the critics are loving her for it.
Moving from concerts to musical theatre, last year Carly took the lead in a Broadway production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, alongside sitcom queen Fran Drescher of The Nanny. Next year she takes on her next iconic role as Frenchie in the live production on Grease.
On-stage for the first time in South Africa, Top Billing got an exclusive interview with Carly Rae Jepsen as she headed up to savour panoramic bird’s-eye views of Cape Town, Paarl, Table Mountain and Robben Island on the Cape Wheel.
