Losing his sight only turns Mixed Martial Arts Champion Ronald "The Black Mamba" Dlamini into a real-life superhero!
After a fight in 2012, Ronald aka “The Black Mamba” went into a coma caused by meningitis. He awoke having lost his sight but he is now in his graduation year, a motivational speaker, fitness coach and more of a champion than ever.
As soon as he could, Ronald returned to the MMA cage and shifted his career into training fighters and newcomers to the sport. He teaches them to fight using not just sight but all their senses. At the same time, he enrolled in college.
Having discovered some unfortunate realities about what visually impaired people face, Ronald did something about it. At close quarters, he says sight becomes less important in the fight. Ronald’s self-defence journey began when, as a child who refused to be bullied, he followed his late brother to karate classes which led him to kick-boxing, Taibo and MMA.
A fine sense of humour coupled with determination make The Champ a man you just cannot keep down. Sharpened by training and encouraged by family, including his children Sanele and Osimele, Ronald seems unstoppable.
