Top Billing features a Val de Vie masterpiece by designer Clinton Savage
We take a look at a stunning house on Val de Vie Estate, where the owners called on the design expertise of Clinton Savage.
With a library, designer fireplace and oak herringbone floors, this week’s location is a sea of tranquillity in the winelands near Paarl. Ironically, the couple who built it, met whilst working on an oil rig in the storm and drama of the Atlantic Ocean. Val de Vie Estate is a homecoming for Marcus and Sharrol Clemitson, who for years worked and travelled abroad. This sure beats living out of a suitcase!
A love of wine and the outdoors brought them to this estate and as for the indoors, they looked to designer Clinton Savage. Marcus Clemitson designed the wine cellar and their collection includes reds from Spain, Greece, even Peru.
Light and warmth pouring in through the windows is retained with double glazing. Underfloor heating is run off water heated by solar panels on the roof. Taking a full year to complete, the showstopper of a spiral staircase was worth the wait. The steel foundation had to be hand-cast while the glass could only be made to order once it was in place. The master-suite feels organic, both in its design and use of natural materials. Washed in light from those farm views, the palette is neutral, relaxed and the glass balustrade lends a sense of open space.
On the same estate as this house, we then get to meet the three designers who are are competing against each in this season of Win A Home!
