Our featured home this Saturday on #TopBilling is a sophisticated masterpiece of a house with is also home to five dogs, four cats and a herd of Japanese cows!
The owners of this property on the banks of the Goukou River had visited the area with their family for many years. One day, they decided they no longer wanted to just visit but rather to make it their home. The decision was to build it on one level to run in line with the river.To bring the overall style and interior design together they turned to Jenna Marrian from Isabelina Design Concepts.
The owners decided on all their own specifications and designed the layout of the house themselves, then had a draftsman do the plan. Jenna also had to do a balancing act with the fabrics. With nine pets, there’s no room for clutter. The Great Danes are colour coded with the décor though that was a happy coincidence in this seamless interior design. The exteriors are finished in a natural, bagged brick to blend into the surroundings and they merge with the understated decking, which runs the length of the farm-house.
Designed to overlook the river and paddocks with a free view, the sophisticated bathrooms offer the most scenic place to brush your teeth. Two further en-suite bedrooms encourage family to visit at any time and it’s a home for all seasons. Its natural character has been shaped by someone who has lived and farmed in the area for eighteen years. Landscaper, Warren Matthews from Stonehaven Co. supervised the earthworks and saw a great opportunity once they began excavating.
As well as offering ideal country to raise cattle on, the Goukou River at the foot of the property is one which you can follow all the way down to the estuary at the seaside village of Stilbaai. The farm lies on a stretch of fresh water and countryside ideal for calm fishing or stand up paddle-boarding - whilst being just a gentle cruise away from some of The Garden Route’s best blue diamond beaches.
