Top Billing features a timeless Highveld home
We take a tour of the magnificent home of designer Dewald Prinsloo and Leonard de Villiers. Where art, architecture, form and a sense of timelessness meet, you find this house.
While this Joburg house presents a very contemporary face to the world, the strong lines are warmed by wood panelling and it also manages not to impose on its surrounds. The clean, crisp lines continue into the home and the challenge of softening these was one which designer Dewald Prinsloo and his partner Leonard de Villiers readily accepted.
Dewald suggests keeping larger pieces of furniture in neutral colours. With so much sky open to the living area and Highveld light streaming in, the indoors feel as free as the outdoors.
It was Leonard and Dewald’s popular Franschhoek art and design gallery which led to clients asking them to assist with the interior design of their homes, restaurants and hotels which they now do around the world.
The choice of art demands a closer look but is restrained and uncluttered. It suits a home where the set-pieces of interior design are themselves as interesting as art. The bathroom is understated and unusual; like walking into a painting of a bath house. To build a structure the scale of this one and still have it turn out to be so welcoming a home – is a job well done.
