Top Billing features actor, artist and TV presenter Heino Schmitt
Top Billing sat down with former 7de Laan actor and now Pasella presenter, Heino Schmitt, who besides his charm on television, has more hidden talents.
To see Heino’s work first hand in a local galleryis to understand how thoroughly he goes about what he does in life. Growing up in the Waterberg on his father’s Nguni cattle farm he saw sculpture in nature. Trees, rocks and driftwood were all inspiration.
With each of his pieces taking him up to three months to create, they are a labour of love. Heino champions the natural form of wood and works it with a meticulous nature inherited from his German father Otto Schmitt.
The counter-balance to Heino’s artwork is the release he finds in adventure sports like those found near Parys. Snowboarding is Heino’s favourite adventure sport but in the absence of the Alps and reliable snow conditions, the equivalent is to get in an aeroplane and jump out at the altitude of the Alps!
There was too little time for this lifestyle whilst Heino was filming soapies six days a week and often from six to six each day but on Pasella it’s part of his job. Heino enjoys this mostly because he says it forces him to be completely present in the moment.
