When radio presenter Diana Disi Fensham married Jake Redman, a top ranking golfer on the SA pro circuit, it was an absolute fairytale wedding.
This is a match made by golf. Disi and Jake met when he was a top amateur golfer and she played for her Southern Cape provincial team. Ten years later, they were about to walk down the aisle.
We met Disi at her family home in P.E. to view the dress worn by her grandmother Diana Dakin. It was made of duchess satin by Nuns at Cathcart Convent, and was then worn by Disi’s mom Jenny Fensham on her big day. Now it was her daughter’s turn.
The couple were to be married in St. Cuthbert’s Church where Disi’s parents were wed.
As well as Sunshine Tour pro golfers, the guest list included cricketing greats like Barry Richards. Father of the bride Russell Fensham is an ex-Springbok hockey player himself so sport runs deep on both sides of the family. Also on hand to witness the ceremony was Disi’s extended radio family.
The venue was quite spectacular. Held under a tent over the tennis court, the function had an elegant, cream, white and champagne theme rich in three thousand flowers. Jake looked as if he had just won The U.S. Masters or British Open.
Disi already travels to as many of his tournaments as she can but they now hope to travel together more often. As a fine golfer, Jake’s wife would make a first class professional caddie and they’d be quite a team but after a decade together, no one’s rushing any decisions. This relationship’s been the best round of their lives and may it continue so!
