Fashion designer Thato Matabane is breaking the mould with denim in Africa.
When Thato Matabane realised the world was crazy for luxury denim, but South Africa wasn’t on the map, he wasted no time in bringing his hand-crafted and treated jeans to the runway. Just like that AfrikanSwiss was born!
One of the brand’s philosophies is that denim can never be too distressed – to the point where many pieces feature a paint treatment that’s created by hand. No two items of jeans will ever be the same. Inspired by the idea of a Masaai biker, AfrikanSwiss’ latest collection revved up the crowds at this year’s SA Fashion Week.
Thato’s ultimate vision is that AfrikanSwiss ‘reclaim the pride of Africa’ and so far it’s doing exactly that. The success of AfrikanSwiss just goes to show that, much like denim and a comfy tee, creativity and vision are always the perfect match.
