Top Billing spends the day with Phindile Gwala Soapie star, Phindile Gwala, dances herself fit, throws herself, heart and soul into motherhood and balances parallel careers in business and television.
Before her big break in 2012, Phindile was the shy daughter of a Pastor who studied business management. Today she’s a household name, her character Nonny, a favourite with Muvhango’s seven million viewers and as well as talent, what got her here was fearlessness.
What viewers don’t see of Phindile is the entrepreneur she is outside of television. While soapies can be a matter of spending hours on set waiting for your call, this lady has started property, carwash and shisanyama businesses that work for her while she’s in studio. A day with her is one full of surprises.
Since becoming a mom at the age of twenty, this has become Phindile’s most cherished role. Following in her mother’s footsteps, nine year old Thato has also featured on Muvhango.
After five years on this show, Phindile’s part of the family and to find out what she’s like to work with, we met for lunch with her co-star Dingaan Mokebe Khumalo.
