In motorsport, they say a driver is born with a helmet on their head! However, it’s a pricey business, so you also need a good head on your shoulders!
David Perel has got the talent and the brains and it’s just landed him a 3 year deal in the big time of GT Racing. He started in pro karting at 15 and won championships, but by 23 the self-funded pro was out of money. Dad, Bobby Perrel then watched his two sons start a tech company, which in 5 years’ time funded David’s return to the track.
We met up with David’s brother Marc and mentor Claudio Piazza Musso at Killarney. Claudio’s teaching allowed David to return to competitive racing at age 30. With David’s savings from his and Marc’s business, he financed a seat in a team competing in the Italian GT Championship for Ferrari. South Africa’s been waiting a long time for a Le Mans champ and David is our man!
