Top Billing talks life and new albums with Jeremy Loops
After sailing the world and a degree, Jeremy Loops came late to music but with a new album, stunning video and world tour, he’s making up for lost time.
The latest Jeremy Loops album Critical As Water dropped on 16th March 2018 but this hit, international singer/songwriter didn’t get there without some hairy moments and a shark dive in the kelp forests seemed a fitting place to ask him about it.
Jeremy’s choices have always been motivated by wanting to end up doing something he enjoys. Diving with Cape Fur Seals certainly qualifies. Long before music, he worked in bars and restaurants in the U.K. and visited 50 different countries in his sailing days. In between, he earned an honours degree in Property Development and Finance. It was a stressful course and he began playing guitar to help him cope. So a musical career was born which brought him to a day scuba-diving with Top Billing.
Happily Mr Loops is a night owl so he can spend the day on the ocean and still get a good night’s songwriting done. He returned from two years in Italy with a fondness for their way of life and combined with his passion for the sea, he’s hit on a healthy balance for work and play. Since his debut album, Trading Change won Album of the Year on iTunes SA and MTV Africa’s Best Alternative Album, Jeremy has toured non-stop, but Cape Town remains his base.
His new album, Critical As Water, peaked at number 1 on iTunes in South Africa, the Netherlands and Switzerland since it’s 16th March release! The world can’t get enough of Jeremy’s music & we can see why!
