Top Billing tours a beautiful Cape Town home with international influences
With such a renowned silhouette behind it and the Atlantic ocean in front, this property has so much to look at.
Owner Gavin Weiner’s vision for the villa was a blend of pared down design with the exotic atmosphere he’d experienced from the islands of The Indian Ocean to Mexico.
When he declares himself a minimalist, Gavin means it. He has few sentimental pieces around the house but is rather moved by the mood of each room and overall sense of freedom and space.
With the ground floor opened up to more living space, making this a viable family home meant building bedrooms upstairs and raising the house from its original single storey, something architect Mark Zuckerman was on hand to help with.
The beautiful master bedroom, fondly nicknamed ‘Little Italy’ has signatures of Milan and continental design, while the en-suite bathroom blends Mediterranean blues with another tribute to Scandinavian living, an amazing sauna with a view of the mountain.
Once finished, the renovation was more than enough reimagining, until it occurred to the master of the house that if going up by a storey was this rewarding, why not go up by two?
He decided to include a standalone, two-bedroom penthouse apartment with a gym, plunge pool and views in every direction.
Laid out so as to maximise the wrap-around vistas, whether cooking a three course meal here, taking a plunge or waking up to your morning espresso, you’re surrounded by natural beauty.
Another stunning feature is the garden. Cape Town’s gusty winds and cold, wet winters make challenging conditions for sub-tropical plants, but landscaper Eric Cherry wasn’t daunted, and the result is a magnificent green tribute to the tropics!
This house has embraced nature and beautiful views, and the results are incredible.
