Top Billing tours an endless African summer home
The cosmopolitan couple who commissioned tis week’s featured home, wanted it to reflect how their relationship has evolved. A tribute to simplicity, it’s choice of honest stone, timber, concrete and marble flows naturally between the courtyard, garden and interiors.
Much of the success of this home had to do with designer Julia Day being involved from early on in the build. In order for the clean, simple look to work, the finishes had to be meticulous.
Wool carpets and linen chairs offer uninterrupted comfort and Julia’s background in interior architecture shows itself in the ease with which the lounge gives way to the dressing room which leads into the bathroom and sauna. The staircase was an opportunity for daring design within a practical purpose.
As art lovers, the owners’ have managed to build a house which frames the great outdoors of the Highveld, borrows Nature’s own lighting, textures and colour schemes and feels like an endless, African Summer.
