Set in a green belt near Sandton, the house greets you with a mix of rich, black trimmings and warm, timber cladding. They describe it as “A place of peace” and to The Hennings it is an entirely personal project.
Jason is a property developer who, in this case, got to build his own home. Ashleigh has an interior design business and what she has done in their own home sums up her style.
Managing all aspects of their build was a thrill for the couple. Jason got into development by starting a tiling company while Ashleigh began her décor career as a side-line, while working for attorneys.
Instead of clutter and colour, Ashleigh uses mirrors and natural greenery to extend the outdoors into their interiors, where organic materials are used in contemporary style.
Art works are unframed, black and white photographic canvases of horses, whales and dolphins – their favourite animals.
The couple are proud that coming from humble beginnings, each of them has progressively built their businesses, allowing them to now create a beautiful environment for their children. Where they are free to express themselves.
This is an ingenious way to build without losing garden space and to make the most of the year-round outdoor living on The Highveld. Though life ‘indoors’ is pretty good too.
Having planted seventy two trees, The Hennings can now watch Nature complete the picture.
