Tumi Voster boxes her way into form for TIOT8
Whether it’s the 5FM Nights show or her hit Saturday Situation, when Tumi Voster goes live on air, she hits the ground running, every time. Central to bringing that energy, day in and day out, is her fitness secret – boxing.
Tumi stays in shape with the same fighting spirit which saw her take her first title of Miss Personality at the age of five. At fifteen she was landing commercials and presenting TV youth shows. She’s earned a degree, built a national career in radio and is still in her twenties.
Tumi’s trainer is former IBO and Commonwealth champion Tshifhiwa ‘Atomic Spider’ Munyai. So, this is real boxing.
While Ms. Voster loves the informality of the ring or of radio, she is a siren of style to her almost hundred thousand Instagram followers. Her ever evolving look continues to land her magazine features, beauty endorsements and with good reason.
From the time she began presenting on television, as a teenager, Tumi has had others looking to her as a role model, both of style and substance. She embraced it and has become a major influence on young women.
Behind Tumi’s image, she is a professional with a degree who alongside her radio career is marketing manager for a top music label. Helping her to keep things in perspective are friends Fundi Kumalo and Neo Kgolane.
It was in the year she graduated that a twenty one year old Tumi began working in urban youth radio. The personal engagement with her audience is what makes this medium her favourite and six years on, her talent for it now sees her co-host the national weekday show - 5FM Nights, with Linda Mbuso.
As well as her Monday to Friday gig, Ms. Voster hosts the evening weekend show 'The Saturday Situation'. Tumi plans to own a fashion house, a production company and start a family, in the next five years. If you see a light on late at night, chances are it’s her, working to make it happen.
