We take a look back at the Jonathan Boynton-Lee & Simba Mhere bromance
In his friend Simba, Jon saw how brightly a light can shine. Every one of us did, and the legacy of the big man continues to inspire and drive us all.
The way Jonathan has gone about his career on Top Billing, in film and of course, the dancefloor – it’s like he is living several lives at once.
Each Top Billing fan is unashamedly vocal about who their favourite presenter is. When it came to Simba Mhere, the son of a pastor, he won hearts across the board.
While Simba was an accounting graduate and Jon, a former Gauteng one hundred metre sprint champion - they made an awkwardly perfect match.
From inspiring each other to be better to teasing each other. Thousands of South Africans watched as this bromance grew from strength to strength.
In fact, Jon is aware that if his friend was still here, any pose or series of photographs on Instagram or Facebook would never be safe from ambush by Simba. The big man was the ideal insurance policy against ever taking your celebrity or social media numbers too seriously.
Jonathan’s ego was never in danger of over-inflating, not with his fellow presenter in the building.
