Winnie Mandela’s provocative personality is many things to many people – freedom fighter, politician, wife, mother of a nation and leader- one things for sure she is an iconic figure. When the Opera, Winnie, staged by Mfundi Vundla’s Vundowil, opened at the State Theatre recently, the audience included none other than the subject of the biographical musical. We speak to the cast and crew including leading lady Tsakane Maswanganyi as well as the real Winnie Mandela who tells us what she thinks of her life portrayed in music.
