Decor Tip of Week...

Mixing different wood types

Here's a decor dilemma you'll no doubt face at least once in your lifetime: "Can you mix different wood types (like mahogany and maple) in the same interior"? Yes you can, but you'll have to fool the eye to make them look like they belong together. Use  "bridging" colours and textures like American Walnut, Unfinished Oak or Wenge -- they're pale and have blue undertones, so they'll balance the redness of Mahogany or Cherry and the yellow in Maple and Pine. These are used to best effect on living or dining room floors where you're most likely to have wooden furniture. If you've got predominantly dark hardwood furniture, opt for a lighter floor finish and darker where furniture is light.
