Cameron van der Burgh’s life has been defined by The Olympics so it only seemed fitting that he and his gorgeous account manager fiancé Nefeli Valakelis chose to get married in the spiritual home of those Olympics – Greece.
When you’ve flown guests from across the world to Greece, to witness your vows - once there - you take your time to enjoy it and that’s exactly what Cameron and Nefeli did!
As well as The Games, Ancient Athens was the birthplace of democracy and a cradle of art, drama, law, architecture and science. What this city has been to the world, Nefeli is bringing to Cameron’s focused, sporting life. They’re each broadening one another’s horizons and as a friend of the Champ, Maps Maponyane who joined them in Anthens, could attest to it too.
Perspective is to be found everywhere in this city – a home of philosophy, critical thinking and where every profession and field had a patron god amongst the original Olympians.
The stadium which hosted the first modern Olympics, a 122 years ago. It was said to have seen the largest crowd ever to watch such a diverse sporting event and it was humbling to stand where everything began.
As our gold medallist and multiple World Champion looks set to retire after the 2020 Games, he’s found a partner to enrich, share and make the most of the rest of his life.
