Top Billing uncovers the tombs and treasurers of Tutankhamun
The saying goes “something old, something new”, and this week on Top Billing our new presenter, Jade Hubner, meets the old Egyptian legend that is Tutankhamun.
When it was discovered in the 1920's, it was the most intact tomb of an Egyptian Pharaoh ever seen in the modern age. From the mystery around the boy-king’s death to the mathematical genius that built the pyramids in which the pharaohs were entombed, this subject takes lifetimes to study. We chat to archaeologist Dr Tarek Elawady, a man who has given his entire life to learning about this civilization which ruled the Mediterranean for thirty centuries.
Whilst visiting Tutankhamun’s tomb itself is a revelation, most artefacts have been removed to several museums, so this exhibition is the only chance to walk through the full, recreated splendour of the tomb in its original state.
Travelling from Seoul, San Diego, Berlin, Paris and Barcelona, it's now Cape Town's turn to uncover the amazing story behind the Golden Age of Egypt.
