Worn by celebrities that range from Roxy Louw, Liezel van der Westhuizen to Paula Abdul, Legacy Collection jewellery might might look strikingly simple, but each piece carries with it a weighty history – each piece is crafted from raw pieced of fence that used to surround Robben Island.
They not only speak to our political past and the healing power of transforming, but also how something broken can turn into a thing of beauty. Made locally in a small factory in Cape Town, people from around the world can now wear a symbol of our freedom.
Jo-Ann met with designer Charmaine to inspect the finer details of these exquisite pieces.
From cuff links, to pendants and bangles, each piece is titled after our road to democracy, and carries with it our story and journey.
