Architect Anton Roodt invites Top Billing into his home
Our Top Billing location this week is the Bloemfontein hillside gallery of a home of architect Anton Roodt created for reading, writing, dreaming and living the best of the good life.
It’s almost four decades since Anton Roodt graduated from The University of The Free State. His spectacular home up on the city’s highest point of Naval Hill incorporates much of what he has learned since then and what he teaches as a senior lecturer at the same faculty.
The exterior of the house blends in with the surroundings while the light, airy interiors are defined by the couple’s desire to enjoy and make the most of their art.
As the Roodt’s art collection grew, a theme of women emerged and they stuck with that throughout the home. The home comprises of many personal pieces which they have collected, one being a 3D love letter with special moments the couple have shared together given to Anton by Zarine on their 30th anniversary.
The Roodt’s initially looked at the house next door; having not liked it they then noticed this one. Sometimes, what you really want is standing right next to you.
